Although the Brisbane Writers Festival is still three months away, they do hold events throughout the year. As winner of the Express Yourselfie! competition last year, I got free tickets to An Evening with David Mitchell on Wednesday, 20 May.
Once my tickets were confirmed, I was in a mad rush to read Cloud Atlas, which I got for Christmas last year. I managed to finish it a day before the event so I at least understood most of what was going on. David Burton did a great job of leading the conversation and there were some really fascinating insights into David Mitchell’s work and personal life.
Events like this (particularly with international authors) are not terribly common in Brisbane and when they come around it’s really exciting. So now I have a signed copy of Cloud Atlas and a building excitement for more author events in the near future. The Brisbane Writers Festival program for 2015 will be released on 25 July and the Festival will take place in early September.
