I have one complaint about the show, and that’s because this video got me all excited for Tiana’s first extended Disney on Ice appearance. In reality, our show in Brisbane only featured a very quick medley from The Princess and the Frog. Like, maybe five minutes. And since Tiana is one of my favourite Disney princesses and I love her songs, I was waiting for her to come back for a longer arc. She did not. Snow White, Cinderella, and Rapunzel all had longer stories and in the end Tiana was almost an afterthought.
In saying that, the other three princesses did have incredible choreography and staging. Snow White’s skirt had some magical twirling power that could not be beaten. My love for the Cinderella story has been recently rekindled by the 2015 movie (which I reviewed here) and for the life of me I can’t work out how they made her skate shiny at the end.
But OH MY GOSH, TANGLED. Rapunzel and Flynn’s skaters were out of this world. Again, check out this video and you will see why. First: core strength. Insane. Second, the SILKS. I have seen people using silks before but silks choreo with ice skates on is just incredible to me. My mouth was literally hanging open the entire time. I think that might be the best Disney on Ice choreo I’ve seen to date.
I had a lot of fun DisneyBounding as Tiana, and you can read more about that in my upcoming geek chic post.
