Join me for my April book photo challenge!

April book challenge

I had so much fun with my first photo challenge, I’ve decided to do a second one! Join me on Instagram for a fun month of book photography, or play along here on WordPress or on Tumblr.

Want to know more about the prompts? Everything is explained here. Just remember, these explanations are for inspiration or guidance. You can interpret any of the prompts however you choose.

  1. Made Me Laugh: Happy April Fools’ Day! I’m not a huge fan of pranks so let’s focus on the fun side of things. Whether a character or a certain line made you laugh out loud or even smirk, share it with us!
  2. Fairy Tale: This would have been Hans Christian Andersen’s 211th birthday. Even if it’s not one of Andersen’s, share your favourite fairy tale(s).
  3. Poetry: Did you know that April is National Poetry Month in America? We may not all be in America but we can still share our love for a single poem or poetry in general.
  4. Hero: You know the drill. If your favourite protagonist is more of an anti-hero, that’s totally cool. Just keep in mind that there’s also a villain prompt later on this month that may end up fitting them better.
  5. Time: The time of day, a time traveller, a clock or a watch—there’s no wrong way to interpret this.
  6. Space: Play with negative space in your photo, or show off your favourite galactic novel(s).
  7. Language: This could be a book in a foreign language, or letting everyone know your first language. Or it could be a book with beautiful prose that you’ve always admired.
  8. Stack: If you’re anything like me, taking photos ends in stacks of books everywhere. Luckily, my shelves also feature stacks of books so it’s not TOO big a deal. Stack ’em up and snap a photo.
  9. Vintage: It’s Cherish an Antique Day! Show off the oldest books in your collection. (It doesn’t matter if they’re a few years or a few decades old.)
  10. The View From Here: Look up from your book for just a second and show us what you else you can see.
  11. Bookmark: YOU MEAN QUITTER STRIP?! No, just kidding. I feel like bookmarks are getting prettier and prettier these days, so showcase some of your favourites or the most horrible and crinkled one that you can’t live without.
  12. Library: America seems to get all the awesome holidays. Today is Library Workers Day. Show some appreciation for your local library or your latest library haul. If you don’t have easy access to a library, substitute this prompt for your book wish list.
  13. Colour: Your favourite colour of books, or some colouring in if that takes your fancy.
  14. Right in the Feels: You know when a book totally rips your heart in two and you hate it and love it at the same time? Yeah. That.
  15. Cover Love: TIME FOR PRETTINESS! Bust out those beautiful covers.
  16. Unpopular Opinion: Tell us about the thing that constantly bugs you. Do you hate a character or book that everyone else seems to love? Do you dog-ear pages? Spill the beans.
  17. ABC: Authors or novels starting with A, B and C, or the ABCs/fundamentals of your reading routine. Interpret this one however you want!
  18. Easy: A fast or easy read.
  19. One, Two, Three: Books in a series or your top three books in any category.
  20. Villain: Which literary character just makes your skin crawl?
  21. Door: A door to another world, your front door, a book with a door on it—just go with it.
  22. My Town: It’s Earth Day! Give us a glimpse into your city/town/neighourhood.
  23. World Book Night: This is an annual celebration of all things books and reading! It’s also the anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
  24. Throne: Game of Thrones is returning to TV! Return to Westeros with a themed photo. If you’re not a Game of Thrones fan, you could make a teeny throne out of books or share a character that rules.
  25. Drink: Tea, coffee, water, Butterbeer—what’s your drink of choice while reading?
  26. Insta-buy: Is there an author or genre that you just HAVE to buy every time? If not, choose your most-owned author or biggest series.
  27. Shelfie: It’s Shelfie Sunday! Show off your collection.
  28. Freebie: This one is literally whatever you want. Your current read, a tag you’ve been wanting to do, or anything else you can imagine.
  29. Line: Line your books up for a photo, or work with a natural or man-made pattern that inspires you..
  30. Wrap-up: What books did you read this month?

There we have it! I hope you can join me for the #AmpersandApril16 challenge! Let me know that you’re participating by commenting/reblogging so I can check out your photos!
