Welcome to my May photo challenge! Join me on Instagram for a fun month of book photography, or play along here on WordPress or on Tumblr. And if you’re not on any of those platforms then you can follow along on Bloglovin’!

Want to know more about the prompts? Everything is explained here. Just remember, these explanations are for inspiration or guidance. You can interpret any of the prompts however you choose.

  1. Childhood: It’s Mother Goose Day! Celebrate with your favourite children’s book or a happy memory from your childhood.
  2. Battle: It’s the 18th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. If you’re not a Harry Potter fan, use this prompt to focus on another battle featured in a book, or perhaps a battle that you’re having/have had with a difficult book.
  3. Dedication: I love reading book dedications. Funny or moving, share your favourite one!
  4. Sci-Fi: May the Fourth be with you when you snap a pic of your favourite sci-fi read. If sci-fi’s not your thing, feel free to take a picture of your favourite genre of book.
  5. Top Five: Favourite characters, favourite covers, favourite authors—anything you please.
  6. Horrible Covers: You know the ones. They don’t match the story, they look hideous, or they’ve changed halfway through a series. Time to dust off your horrible covers for a photo.
  7. Comic: It’s Free Comic Book Day! Celebrate  with your favourite comic book or comic book character. If you’re not a fan of comics or graphic novels, showcase a book that made you laugh.
  8. Mother: It’s Mother’s Day! Think about your favourite mother in a book, or a book that you’ve shared with your mother
  9. Old: A beautiful old book, an old favourite, an old faithful reading companion or whatever you choose.
  10. New: Your latest book purchase or something new to you, like an author or series.
  11. Borrowed: A book from a library, borrowed from a friend or loaned to someone.
  12. Blue: You know the drill. Get out your blue books!
  13. Avoiding: That one book you can’t quite bring yourself to read, for whatever reason. The very bottom of your TBR pile.
  14. Next: Your next read, the next release you’re looking forward to, or anything else that fits the bill.
  15. Shelving System: How do you sort your books? It’s SHELFIE TIME!
  16. Road: Whatever you like, whether it’s real, fictional or metaphorical.
  17. Broken: Broken spines, brokenhearted, broken down car… okay, maybe not broken down car. But if you have one of those I won’t object.
  18. Pattern: A pattern you like on a book cover, in a book, or a pattern you’ve made out of books.
  19. Nineteen: Chapter 19, page 19, 19 books or the 19th book in the series (if you can manage that, I’ll be especially impressed!).
  20. Beginning: Your favourite first line, first book or beginning of a series.
  21. Middle: A book in the middle of a series, in the middle of a shelf, or anything else that takes your fancy.
  22. End: Your favourite book ending or last line.
  23. Lock and Key: You can go literal or figurative with this one! Think secrets, mystery and pretty old keys.
  24. Metallic: Get your shimmer and sparkle on!
  25. Perfect: Your perfect day, perfect reading nook or perfect book.
  26. Circle: Get symbolic or try to attempt an actual circle of books. It can be a bit difficult since they’re decidedly, well, not circular, but I’ve seen some people work it out with the help of some witchcraft.
  27. Chair: A chair is still a chair, even if there’s no one reading there.
  28. “F”: Books or authors starting with F.
  29. Obsessed: You’re obsessed with something. I know you are. Tell me about it!
  30. Accessory: A shelf decoration or item of jewellery.
  31. Wrap-up: What books did you read this month?

There we have it! I hope you can join me for the #AmpersandMay16 challenge! Let me know that you’re participating by commenting/reblogging so I can check out your photos!
