Join me for my June book photo challenge!

Welcome to my June photo challenge! Join me on Instagram for a fun month of book photography, or play along here on WordPress or on Tumblr. And if you’re not on any of those platforms then you can follow along on Bloglovin’!

Want to know more about the prompts? Everything is explained here. Just remember, these explanations are for inspiration or guidance. You can interpret any of the prompts however you choose.

  1. Historical Fiction: You can go as broad as you like with this one. Just pick a book (or books) set in the past that aren’t textbooks/non-fiction. Think The Book Thief, Philippa Gregory, All the Light We Cannot See—the list goes on. It’s also the 25th anniversary of Outlander’s publication!
  2. Similar Covers: Have you ever been excited to find a new book by your favourite author only to realise it’s something completely different? Look for similar fonts, designs, positions, etc.
  3. Sign: Street signs, billboards, graffiti, foreshadowing—whether it’s a literal or metaphorical sign is totally up to you.
  4. Kiss: Your favourite first kiss, a book you’re totally in love with, a kiss/marry/kill game or a romantic novel.
  5. Perspective: You can work some magic with this one using forced perspective, or you can showcase a book that has changed your outlook on something.
  6. End Pages: You know those beautiful designs on the inside covers of hardback books? Yeah. That.
  7. Light: A light read, actual lighting or a good vs. evil/light vs. dark comparison.
  8. Dark: A darker, twisted read, dark lighting or a good vs. evil/light vs. dark comparison.
  9. First: The first book in a series, the first book you read, the first line or word or page—totally up to you!
  10. Warmth: The Northern Hemisphere will be loving the warmer weather right now, but here in Australia we’re rugging up. Whether it’s a warm day outdoors for you or the warmth of blankets and a hot drink, it’s your choice.
  11. Naked: I’m talking HARDBACKS, people. Ditch those dust jackets and let the book design shine. I mean, you could always talk about a character you’d like to see naked. You do you.
  12. Diary: Happy birthday to Anne Frank! She would have been ??? this year. To honour her, let’s shine a light on her work or another type of diary. It could be your personal planner, an epistolary novel, a notebook or anything else that fits the definition.
  13. Ship: I’m saiiiiiiiiling away. Set an open course for the virgin seaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Or romance. That could also work.
  14. Weapon: Characters have some pretty bitchin’ weapons, let’s be honest. Do you prefer swords, wands, a bow and arrow, a shield or something else?
  15. Nature: I’m a sucker for outdoorsy shots so let’s just revel in them for a while.
  16. Mail: Show off your subscription boxes, your latest bookish purchase or a letter that you’ve received recently.
  17. Speech: Fiction (and non-fiction, come to think of it) is filled with rousing speeches. Which one is your favourite?
  18. Cycle: An actual bicycle or a cyclical work such as a story cycle or circular plot device.
  19. Wood: You can go outdoors for this one again, or chill out with some furniture, or talk about a book actually set in the woods.
  20. Candle: I LOVE CANDLES. Especially bookish candles. What’s your favourite?
  21. Home: Real or imaginary, past or present.
  22. Retelling: There are some fantastic fairytale retellings available these days. Or you can show off a fresh take on a much-loved classic.
  23. Smile: What book makes you smile? (Even if it’s in a creepy way.)
  24. Current: Your current read, current pet peeve or current anything, really.
  25. Music: From a page to screen adaptation or a song that reminds you of a book.
  26. Stone: It’s the 19th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’s publication! This is one of my favourite books ever so of course it gets a prompt. Not a fan of Harry Potter? No worries! Post about a precious gem, some kind of stony place or a character with a heart of stone.
  27. Game: Legend (Wikipedia) has it that the last Game of Thrones episode for the season will air on this date! You can also talk about a game played in a fictional world, or your favourite sport!
  28. Bed: There’s nothing quite like curling up in bed with a good book. This one is all about sheets, pillows and lazy reading days.
  29. Holiday: A lot of people will be taking some kind of mid-year holiday around this time (lucky devils). If you’re stuck at home, tell us about the books you like to take on holiday, where your next holiday will be or which location you love to visit with characters.
  30. Wrap-Up: What books did you read this month?

There we have it! I hope you can join me for the #AmpersandJune16 challenge! Let me know that you’re participating by commenting/reblogging so I can check out your photos!
