Join me for my December 2018 book photo challenge!

Join me for my December 2018 book photo challenge!

Welcome to my December photo challenge! This year, all my monthly Instagram challenges will be going under the hashtag #Ampersand2018, though I’ll be creating prompts for each month as usual.

I’ve given ideas for each prompt below, but you can interpret them however you choose! Don’t forget to check out my tips for conquering a book photo challenge!

  1. Red: Today is World AIDS Day. In honour of the symbol (a red ribbon), post a photo with red books.
  2. List: All the books you want to read before the end of the year.
  3. Representation:Today is International Day for People with a Disability. Post a photo of a book that features characters with disability.
  4. Conclusion: I know a lot of people are looking forward to this day, because it’s the release of Queen of Air and Darkness (Cassandra Clare’s latest Shadowhunter novel). Post a photo with your favourite final book in a series/trilogy/duology, etc.
  5. Skills: It’s International Ninja Day! You could be a Book Ninja and drop a book off on public transport for people to find, or you could post about a character with some serious skills.
  6. Imitate: Recreate one of your favourite photos from 2018.
  7. Under: Books under the Christmas tree OR underrated books.
  8. Point: A book you’re always recommending, or that is always recommended to you.
  9. Tree: A photo of a book with your Christmas tree OR take your book outdoors.
  10. Home: Where you read/your bookish setup.
  11. Mountain: It feels like there’s a mountain of work (and reading!) to do before the end of the year. What are you struggling with?
  12. Twelve: Twelve books, the twelfth book in a series, or your favourite book when you were twelve, etc.
  13. Reward: How you treat yourself (or your shelf).
  14. Plan: It’s getting to the busiest part of the month! Are you managing to schedule in some good reading time?
  15. Cup: It’s International Tea Day! Pour yourself a cuppa and settle in with a good book.
  16. #socksunday: Get yourself into an awkward position and take a photo of your feet!
  17. Prepare: Preparations for Christmas/the end of the year, OR a book you’re getting ready to read.
  18. Decorate: Bookish decorations and décor.
  19. Imagine: The latest story that has really captured your imagination.
  20. Wanderlust: A fictional location you’d love to visit (especially during the holidays).
  21. Style: Create a look inspired by books. If you’d prefer not to be in front of the camera, don’t forget you can also take a flat lay outfit photo, or even just include a scarf or jumper in the shot.
  22. Tradition: Do you have any family/personal traditions during the holiday season? Special things you like to cook, movies you like to watch, etc. OR your own reading traditions, e.g. “December is my favourite time to read [insert book/genre].”
  23. Bookshelf: The last full shelfie for 2018!
  24. Before: The night before Christmas, OR a prequel book OR a book you wish you’d read sooner.
  25. Celebrate: Happy Christmas to those who celebrate it! Take it easy today and enjoy the time with your loved ones. Not a Christmas fan? Tell us about something else in your life that you’re celebrating right now. It could be finishing a book, achieving a personal goal, or not hitting snooze 15 times on your alarm this morning.
  26. Box: A bookish subscription box, OR an out-of-the-box (surprising) read.
  27. Whoops: Your least favourite book of the year, OR a book you were expecting to like and didn’t.
  28. Top: What has been your favourite book of the year?
  29. Nearly: What do you think your final read of the year will be? Are you pushing yourself to meet any goals?
  30. Wrap-up: What books did you read this month?
  31. Accomplish: Did you accomplish what you set out to do this year? Take the opportunity to do a 2018 wrap-up!

I hope you can join me for #Ampersand2018 on Instagram! Don’t forget to use the hashtag in your posts so I can check out your photos!

  1. I’ve really liked taking part in your challenge this month! I didn’t do all of the prompts, but I did quite a lot, and it really helped me come up with ideas for my pictures. I especially like the way you provide extra details on your blog, because that helped when I wasn’t sure how to interpret them. I’m co-hosting my own challenge in January, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for your challenges in future months 🙂
